GERMANY: FOUR INJURED IN SHOOTING OUTSIDE BIELEFELD COURTHOUSE; TWO ARRESTED
Bielefeld, Germany – Four people were injured, one critically, after multiple gunshots were fired today outside the courthouse in Bielefeld, Germany. Police confirmed they have arrested two men and recovered the weapon. Earlier searches for a third accomplice, believed to have hidden in a nearby building, were unsuccessful.
The shooting occurred around lunchtime. While police have not released details on the motive or those responsible, German media reports suggest a connection to the ongoing murder trial of boxer Besar Nimani. An alleged assailant in Nimani's killing was having a hearing at the courthouse when the shooting took place.
What We Know About the Bielefeld Shooting
The shooting happened in front of the Bielefeld courthouse, located in the North Rhine-Westphalia region. Inside the building, a trial was underway for Hüseyin Akkurt, one of the alleged perpetrators in the murder of Besar Nimani. The boxer was assassinated in March 2024 in Bielefeld with at least sixteen revolver shots. Akkurt was arrested in Brussels in July, while another suspect remains at large. At the time, police characterized Nimani's murder as a gang-related settling of scores.
According to Bild, the father and a brother of the accused in Nimani's murder are reportedly among those injured today. Other sources, however, claim the injured individuals are relatives of the deceased boxer.
