MARSEILLE FIRE: "FLAMES DIMINISHING, NO CASUALTIES," SAYS PREFECT

The fire that affected the northern districts of Marseille, France, "is clearly diminishing," Prefect Georges-François Leclerc announced today. "The flames are attenuated, but it's obvious that in a fire of this magnitude, across such a vast area, new flare-ups, explosions, and smoke plumes can occur."

Currently, at least 70 homes have been "affected," with 10 of them destroyed, but there are no reported casualties, aside from a few minor injuries, mainly among firefighters. High-speed rail service resumed in Marseille this morning after disruptions caused by the intense fires, while local train service remains severely impacted.
