REMAINS OF ALESSANDRO COATTI REPATRIATED TO RAVENNA
Ravenna, Italy – The remains of Alessandro Coatti, the 38-year-old biologist from Longastrino, near Ravenna, who was tragically murdered and dismembered on April 6 in Santa Marta, Colombia, have arrived back in Ravenna today.
The Italian Embassy in Bogotá confirmed the repatriation, clarifying that before burial, the body will be made available to Italian authorities for an autopsy, scheduled for next Wednesday. Just two days ago, four individuals were arrested in connection with Coatti's murder.
Four Arrests Made Across Colombia
The four restrictive measures were issued by the judicial authority of the Magdalena department in northern Colombia, leading to arrests in the cities of Bogotá, Santa Marta, Medellín, and Arjona-Bolivar. The suspects are all Colombian nationals: three men and one woman.
"After intense investigative activity carried out by Colombian authorities in synergy with our competent authorities (the Public Prosecutor's Office of Rome, responsible for the proceedings in Italy; the ROS Carabinieri; the International Police Cooperation Service; the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and the Italian Embassy in Bogotá), we have reached the arrest of the four perpetrators of this heinous murder," stated the Italian Embassy in Colombia. They emphasized that this "significant result is the fruit of close judicial cooperation between the two countries, achieved in extremely short times thanks to investigations conducted tirelessly in multiple directions until the identification of those responsible."
