RICCARDO SENTENCED TO 20 YEARS FOR MURDERING MOTHER, FATHER, AND BROTHER: "I WANTED TO BE IMMORTAL AND LIVE FREELY"

Riccardo Sentenced to 20 Years for Murdering Mother, Father, and Brother:

Milan, Italy – The Milan Juvenile Court has sentenced Riccardo C. to 20 years in prison for the confessed massacre of his family in Paderno Dugnano, near Milan. The teenager, who was 17 at the time, brutally murdered his father, mother, and younger brother with over 100 stab wounds during the night of August 31 and September 1, 2024. The prosecution had sought the maximum sentence for juvenile defendants, which is 30 years, reduced by one-third due to the fast-track procedure, resulting in the prosecutor's request for 20 years.

Defense Calls Sentence "Unacceptable"

"A very harsh sentence that I cannot accept and which I will appeal," stated Amedeo Rizza, Riccardo C.'s lawyer, commenting on the verdict issued this past Friday, June 27. "The gravity of the act is not in question, but I don't believe one can reach 20 years, the maximum penalty, with the recognition of two generic mitigating circumstances. I will also appeal the failure to recognize partial mental infirmity," the lawyer explained.

The defense attorney intends to review the verdict's reasoning, which will be deposited within 90 days. "In my opinion, the prosecutors' request, which sought aggravating circumstances to prevail over mitigating factors and semi-incapacity, was more logical."

The Prosecution's Case

The juvenile prosecution had requested that the aggravating circumstances, including premeditation, outweigh the mitigating factors and any partial mental incapacity. This situation was highlighted by the expert psychiatric report filed on March 14, which suggested the boy lived between reality and "fantasy." The defense had also appointed its own expert consultant, psychiatrist Marco Mollica, whose report concluded total mental infirmity. Both the official expert report and the defense's consultation were based on statements provided by the boy during police questioning. These included chilling remarks such as: "I really wanted to erase my entire previous life" and "I wanted to be immortal; by killing them, I could live freely."
