RUSSELL BRAND CHARGED WITH RAPE AND SEXUAL ASSAULT
LONDON, UK • British police have formally charged comedian and media personality Russell Brand with rape and sexual assault. The charges follow an 18-month investigation into allegations made by four women concerning incidents that reportedly occurred between 1999 and 2005. Brand is expected to appear in a London court on May 2nd.
London, UK, April 4, 2025 – 7:43 PM CEST – The Metropolitan Police in London announced today that Russell Brand, 50, faces multiple charges of rape and sexual assault. The alleged offenses involve four women and span the period from 1999 to 2005.
These charges stem from an 18-month investigation initiated after British media outlets, including Channel 4 and The Sunday Times, published accounts from victims in September 2023. These individuals claimed to have been sexually assaulted or raped by Brand. The identities of the accusers have not been disclosed.
Brand, known for his stand-up comedy that often included explicit and sometimes violent sexual references, has consistently denied the accusations, asserting that all his past relationships were consensual.
He rose to prominence as a host on radio and television shows, authored books detailing his struggles with drug and alcohol addiction, and appeared in several Hollywood films. He was briefly married to pop star Katy Perry.
In recent years, Brand shifted away from traditional media, cultivating a significant online following. His digital content often blends alternative wellness advice with conspiracy theories, including "anti-globalist" narratives akin to the radical QAnon movement.
After the documentary detailing the allegations against him aired, he publicly announced his conversion to Christianity. He recently stated that he has moved to the United States.
Jaswant Narwal, from the UK's Crown Prosecution Service, confirmed that prosecutors "have carefully reviewed the evidence after a police investigation that began following the broadcast of the Channel 4 documentary." Brand is due to appear before a London court on May 2nd.
