Paris, May 22, 2025 – 2:22 PM – The draws for both the men's and women's Roland Garros tournaments, a Grand Slam event scheduled from May 25 to June 8 (live on Sky Sport and streaming on NOW), have been announced. This tournament holds special significance for Jannik Sinner: the South Tyrolean tennis player, now world No. 1 and returning to action after a three-month suspension from the Rome Internationals, climbed to the top of the ATP rankings precisely after the 2024 edition of the tournament, which concluded with a semifinal loss to Carlos Alcaraz. This year promises a very rich prize pool: the 2025 edition offers a total of €56.32 million, distributed equally between the men's and women's tournaments, marking a 5.21% increase from last year.
The Men's Singles Draw
In the first round, Sinner will face Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech, ranked 72nd in the ATP, and in the second round, he could potentially meet another home favorite, 38-year-old Richard Gasquet, playing in his final tournament. The path gets tougher in the quarterfinals, where a potential clash with Britain's Jack Draper, ranked 5th, looms. In the semifinals, the South Tyrolean could face either Germany's Alexander Zverev or the evergreen Novak Djokovic. On the other side of the draw, Carlos Alcaraz, recent winner of the Rome Internationals, will face Japan's Nishikori in the first round.
Other Italian tennis players in the draw include Lorenzo Musetti, who will begin Roland Garros by challenging a qualifier, as will Flavio Cobolli. Tougher draws await Matteo Arnaldi, who will face Canada's Felix Auger-Aliassime; Lorenzo Sonego, who will play against American Ben Shelton; and Mattia Bellucci, who will challenge Draper. Also participating are Luciano Darderi, facing American Korda; Luca Nardi against Hungary's Marozsan; and Francesco Passaro against Dutchman De Jong.
Matteo Berrettini Absent from Paris
However, Matteo Berrettini will be absent. After withdrawing from Rome in tears, he has not recovered from his abdominal issues. The tennis player wrote on Instagram: "Hi everyone, unfortunately I had to make the very difficult decision to withdraw from Roland Garros. I haven't had enough time to recover and feel 100% ready. I'm looking forward to competing on grass and am already preparing with my team. I am very grateful for the support I feel from all of you and can't wait to get back on court."
The Women's Singles Draw
The women's draw has also been announced. Jasmine Paolini, winner of the Rome Internationals and ranked 4th in the WTA, has been drawn in the upper half of the draw and will debut in the first round against China's Yue Yuan, 26 years old and ranked 62nd. Potential obstacles in the quarterfinals could be Poland's Iga Swiatek, who defeated her in last year's Roland Garros final, and in the semifinals, Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, ranked world No. 1. Among other Italian players, Elisabetta Cocciaretto will challenge a qualifier in the first round, and Lucia Bronzetti will face world No. 20 Ekaterina Alexandrova.
