THE WORLD'S 50 BEST RESTAURANTS 2025: ITALY LANDS THREE SPOTS IN TOP 20
The World's 50 Best Restaurants has announced this year's winners of "The World's Best Restaurant," one of the most prestigious gastronomic awards globally. The awards ceremony took place on Thursday evening in Turin, Italy, where the culinary world gathered to celebrate the best restaurants and chefs of 2025.
A panel of over 1,000 experts, divided into 27 regions worldwide, convened to determine the final ranking.
World's Best Restaurant: Maido in Lima, Peru
This year's top honor went to Maido in Lima, Peru, which climbed from fifth place in 2024, unseating last year's winner, Disfrutar of Barcelona, Spain. Chef Mitsuharu Tsumura, a Lima native, crafts a fusion of Latin American and Japanese flavors.
"We talk a lot about environmental sustainability, but we rarely talk about human sustainability. I think this industry can be an example of how people can be brought together through the power of food," Tsumura said.
Each year, the jury also bestows special awards upon chefs, front-of-house staff, and hospitality industry professionals. This year's special awards went to Best Female Chef, Pichaya 'Pam' Soontornyanakij of Potong in Bangkok, and Mindy Woods of Byron Bay, winner of the Champions of Change 2025 award. The World's Best Pastry Chef award went to Parisian chef Maxime Frederic, while the Estrella Damm Chefs' Choice Award was presented to Albert Adrià, head chef of Enigma in Barcelona.
